Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan is the second, after the oil industry, the largest sector of the economy of this country. So it’s sustainable, balanced development is the basis of improving the welfare of the people.

Agricultural lands occupy 50% of the total area of the country (including arable land-18.4%, meadows and pastures-25.0%), agriculture employs about 18% (2005, 2011) the working-age population lives in rural areas and 48 per cent of the inhabitants of the Republic. Taking into account the current level of agricultural production, soil agricultural regions of Azerbaijan were subjected to intense erosion processes.
