Abstract

Internet safety for children is an increasing concern, particularly for pediatric nurses who play a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of young patients in the digital age. As children’s use of digital platforms and devices rises, so do the risks, including cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, online predators, and mental health impacts. Pediatric nurses must be equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills to educate both children and parents on the importance of online safety. This includes raising awareness about the dangers of excessive screen time, the need for secure privacy settings, and the potential for digital addiction. Nurses also advocate for the appropriate use of social media and gaming platforms, teaching children about their digital footprints and the long-term effects of online behavior. Collaborating with parents and educators, pediatric nurses can help foster open communication between children and their families, enabling safer internet use. Moreover, healthcare providers must continue to stay informed about evolving online threats and promote best practices for digital engagement. Recent studies highlight the need for stronger policy development, effective tools for monitoring online activity, and improved educational resources for parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to ensure children’s online safety.
