Abstract

Anal fistula is a chronic pathological communication between the anal canal and the perianal skin, often developing as a sequel to inadequately healed anal abscesses. It is commonly associated with pain, discharge, recurrent infections, and a considerable impact on quality of life. Conventional surgical interventions such as Seton placement, fistulotomy, and sphincter-preserving procedures remain the mainstay of treatment, but they are often accompanied by risks of recurrence and complications. The present study offers a preliminary evaluation of individualized homeopathic management in patients with anal fistula. Ten cases were managed according to classical homeopathic principles, with remedy selection based on holistic assessment-including totality of symptoms, constitutional features, reportorial analysis, and Materia Medica correlation. Remedies such as Calcarea carbonica were frequently prescribed. Patients demonstrated varying degrees of improvement, including reduction in pain, discharge, and recurrence, along with enhanced well-being during follow-up. While the findings suggest that individualized homeopathy may serve as a supportive, non-invasive therapeutic approach in the management of chronic anal fistula, the limited sample size does not allow for definitive conclusions. Further controlled studies with larger cohorts are recommended to substantiate these preliminary observations and to better understand homeopathy’s potential role in integrative care.
