Cats eating their own kittens is a disturbing behavior, but it does have underlying reasons. It's important to understand that this behavior is relatively rare and typically occurs for specific reasons. Here are some of the primary explanations for this behavior: 1. **Maternal Instinct Failure:** In some cases, a mother cat may not recognize her kittens as her own. This can happen if she's a young, first-time mother or if her maternal instincts are somehow disrupted. In such cases, she might view the kittens as a threat or potential prey.
