It’s now 40 years since the first edition (1979) of the World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System “blue book” has been published. But classification of central nervous system tumors had been started before this time by many years.
Harvey Cushing and Percival Bailey recognized the correlation between tumor cells and it’s clinical outcome and prognosis, They examined the cellular structure of 400 cases of tumor and correlated it with clinical data of these patients at this time Cushing had been operated the 2000th verified brain tumor, April 15, 1931.
