Dr. Rahul Joshi was born on 16 December 1983 in district Pathankot of Punjab state. He did his schooling from DAV public school Pathankot and graduated from SD College, Pathankot in 2006 with first division. Dr Joshi completed his M.Sc. in Zoology (Entomology specialisation) with distinction from Punjabi University Patiala in 2008. He worked on tiger moths during his Ph.D. on “Taxonomic studies on Indian Lithosiinae and Ctenuchinae (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae)”. During his Ph. D, he was also awarded JRF and SRF under DST funded project on Indian Arctiidae. He completed his doctorate in July 2013. Dr. Joshi has visited more than 25 states of the country for collection of moths. He has described 30 new taxa from India along with many new records of genera and species. He served as Assistant Professor in the department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College, Bathinda, Punjab from August 2013 – March 2017. He has published one book and also published 27 full length research papers in various National and International journal of repute. He has attended and delivered lectures in more than 20 National/International conferences. He was also selected among 25 young taxonomists in India to participate in a fully sponsored workshop on Insect Taxonomy in 2012 held at Calicut, Kerala. Dr Joshi also worked with Dr Karel Cerny, an Arctiid expert from Austria in 2012. Dr Joshi also worked with Dr Navneet Singh (Scientist D, ZSI) who is an eminent expert on tiger moths. Dr Joshi is a life member of Association of Entomologists. He is also a reviewer of many National and International journal. He was also invited by International museum Zoologische Staatssammlung München, Germany from December 12-21, 2016 to work on Arctiid moths. Presently, Dr Joshi is serving as scientist C in Zoological Survey of India, Gangetic Plains regional Centre, Patna and is working on Lepidoptera of Gangetic Plains.
