MR. JOEL LAWRENCE FERNANDES is a Freelancing Physiotherapist in Goa. He has been associated and successfully worked with the Baroda Football Academy (BFA), Gujarat for Under 13 Sub-Junior Team for All India Football Federation (AIFF) Hero Sub-junior Football championship 2019. He provided on field medical care for the team for the tournament. He has earned BACHELOR OF PHYSIOTHERAPY (BPT) with Pass with a Distinction from School of Allied Health Sciences (SOAHS), Manipal. He has experience working with a wide spectrum of clients, including paediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Mr. Fernandes has presented papers on “Contralateral Deficits in Muscle Activation and Performance Post Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injury” and “Proprioceptive Deficits and Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy”. He undertook a project titled, 'Quantitative Sensory Testing: An Analysis of Psychometric properties of calibrated stimuli given using various testing instruments- A Rapid Review'. He has attended workshops such as, 'IASM Team Physician & Sports Rehab Course' and ‘On Field Assessment & Physio Management' & 'Knee in Sports: Isokinetic Testing and Applications'. He attended a CME on ‘Neural Plasticity after Stroke: From Restoration to Rehabilitation.’ He attended various conferences and Research Colloquiums such as the 5th Annual Conference of Karnataka Arthroscopy Society (KASCON 2019) and 40th Annual Conference of Indian Association of Sports Medicine (IASM). He is Certified Practitioner for “Clinical Neurodynamics for Upper and Lower Quarter” trained under Kiran Challagundla from Clinical Neurodynamics Solutions Australia. He also has conducted projects such as, “An Analysis of Soft drinks available in the Market” and “Quality of Well Water Analysis”. He has been the recipient of Samrat Clubs International State Award. He presented a project in the “17th National Children’s Science Congress 2009”. He has won various accolades for his performance at various intercollegiate events in cultural activities and has won the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA).
MR. JOEL LAWRENCE FERNANDES would like to pursue his career as an On-Field Team Physiotherapist and as a researcher and undertake more studies into understanding the complexities of various barriers faced by athletes in their performance post an injury. His main area of interest of research lies in Post injury sequelae in athletes and sports populations mainly focussing on football players. He wants to further his research of sports and athletic injuries in special populations such as paraplegics, blind, children with Down’s syndrome or cerebral palsy, amputees, etc.
