Dr. Dijana Blazhekovikj – Dimovska, PhD is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Biotechnical Sciences, University “St. Kliment Ohridski” - Bitola, where she is involved in realization of the teaching of all three cycles of studies at this Faculty.
Her doctoral thesis proposal was approved under the title: “Parasite fauna and mycoses in cyprinid fish in the fish breeding facilities in the Republic of Macedonia”, thus gaining a scientific degree of Doctor of Biotechnical Sciences.
Regarding her doctor thesis and the fact that there has been little investigation on the parasitic fauna and mycoses of cyprinid fish from fish - breeding facilities in Republic of Macedonia, she obtained more detailed data about the species composition of the parasites of fish, the dynamics of infestation with parasites by seasons, as well as by adult stages and sex; determined the species in the macrozoobenthos and their dynamics; and examined the concentration of heavy metals in water and in the above-mentioned organisms (fish, endohelminths). Investigation of the parasite fauna has a fundamental and applied character. From these studies, the degree of invasion and its dynamics in fish from fish - breeding facilities in Republic of Macedonia will be known, which is very important for determining the health status of fish, and which is important for maintaining the biodiversity in the water ecosystems. Because parasites of fish are very sensitive indicators of the health of the environment, the results should have practical significance for freshwater ecology. For the first time, in Macedonian waters, she determined and published the findings of 8 parasite species in carp (Cyprinus carpio): Apiosoma piscicola, Chilodonella hexasticha, Myxobolus müelleri, Dactylogyrus vastator Ergasilus sieboldi, Ergasilus briani, Argulus foliaceus and Lamproglena pulchella; 5 parasite species in grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella): Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Trichodina sp., Dactylogyrus lamellatus, Tylodelphys clavata (larvae) and Sinergasilus major; 3 parasite species in bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis): Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Dactylogyrus aristichthys and Sinergasilus polycolpus; 1 parasite species in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) - Sinergasilus polycolpus.
