Dr. Pramod Prasad is associated with wheat rust research programme. He ha conducted population biology studies of Puccinia graminis tritici and Puccinia triticina from South Asia, contributed in decoding the genomes of 15 pathotypes of Puccinia triticina, sequencing of the genome of three pathotypes of Puccinia striiformis (46S119, 31 & K), contributed in deciphering the molecular basis of leaf rust resistance gene Lr24 mediated leaf rust resistance in wheat and identification and characterisation of ten new pathotypes {46S117, 110S119, 238S119, 110S84, 110S247, 7S0 and 6S0 (Indian Phytopathology 69(4s): 178-85); 111S68, 79S4, and 79S68 (Indian Phytopathology 70(3): 307-314)} of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici and two new pathotypes (107-1 and 20-1) of Puccinia triticina. Currently, he is working at ICAR-IIWBR, Regional Station, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh on population biology and molecular basis of host-pathogen interaction in wheat and barley rusts
