Dr. Sadaf Hasan has done her PhD from Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University (India), where she worked on dental biofilms and the development of anti- biofilm agents. She has studied in vitro as well as in vivo effects of anticariogenic compounds on inhibition of cariogenic potential of Streptococcus mutans. She proposed active fractions of different medicinal plants as therapeutic anti- biofilm
candidate against virulence properties of Streptococcus mutans including the
formation of dental biofilm. She has also, successfully developed a novel synergistic
combination, which demonstrated to be an improved treatment strategy against
dental caries. This combination inhibited the bacterial pathogenesis by upsetting
different genes and bacterial enzymes involved in regulatory network of the
bacteria, leading to suppression of virulence pathways of Streptococcus mutans. Dr. Sadaf Hasan have published her research work as first author in journals of international repute including PLoS One, BMC Microbiology, Future Medicine etc. Precisely, her
independent research has endowed her with a strong insight into understanding the molecular mechanisms of biofilms. Currently, Dr. Sadaf Hasan is employed as a postdoctoral fellow under WOMEN SCIENTIST SCHEME, working on multidrug resistance (MDR) bacterial biofilms associated with indwelling medical devices (IMDs) in Critical Care Setup. They are aiming to develop therapeutic anti-biofilm materials/ coatings that can modify the surface properties of medical devices. This will lead to enhanced inhibition of bacterial adhesion resulting in unsuccessful biofilm formation, hence eventually circumventing fatal infections.
Dr. Sadaf Hasan’s Research interest includes Medical/ Clinical Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Oral Biology, Dental caries, Oral Biofilms, Antibiotic resistance, Anti- bacterial activity of Herbal medicine, Medicinal plants
