Dr. Tian Renmao, With a background of experimental biology and a foreground of computational biology, He was a microbial ecologist who is good at studying microbial function and evolution using genomics and metagenomics technologies. He got his PhD degree from University of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the experiences of both experimental work and bioinformatics analysis have assisted him to solve problems in projects and go far in biological research. He has been doing researches in microbial community in environments from soil to groundwater, from coast to Mariana trench, from free-living to holobiont. Now he is working in University of Oklahoma, and there is something more exciting he was doing: extending the frontiers of novel microbial phyla discovery.
Environmental Microbiology, Microbial Genomics, and Microbial Ecology and Evolution. He is doing extensive studies on the ecology, function and evolution of microbes in environments of seawater, marine sediment, marine animal (e.g. sponge and coral), groundwater and soil etc. using Next Generation Sequencing technology. He also interested in developing pipelines for Bioinformatics analysis such as 16S rRNA and ITS gene amplicon sequence, genomic sequence analysis, and metagenomic sequence analysis.
