Prof. Ravi Kant Upadhyay completed Ph D degree in Insect Biochemistry Research on the Topic "Cholesterol absorption in locusts" in Dec. 1997 from University of Delhi under joint registration with National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. 110067. His thrust area of research is cholesterol metabolism in insects, mainly role of cholesterol binding proteins in cholesterol transport and absorption. At present he is working on purification of animal toxins, its toxicity determination and neutralization by using polyclonal antibodies in animal models since last 20 years. Seven students have been awarded Ph. D under his supervision. Seven more students are doing their research work for obtaining Ph. D degree working in different areas of interest i.e. control of garden and forest termites by using different plant based formulations; purification of animal toxins and production of polyclonal antibodies and evaluation of antimicrobial action of plant natural products in vitro cultures. At present he is working in the capacity of Professor in Department of Zoology, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, and Gorakhpur and providing his services regularly since 2001. His academic capabilities can be well gauged by the more than 177 international publications covering 58 different international journals and 3 book chapters, delivered more than 27 invited lectures at seminars and conferences. He has collaborations and interactions with distinguished academicians, experts and leaders in scientific research. He has successfully completed three research projects sponsored by different Government agencies. UGC sponsored major research project “Production of polyclonal antibodies against animal toxins by using natural and synthetic toxin peptidesâ€. CSIR sponsored major research project “Characterization and immunocytochemical localization of cholesterol binding proteinsâ€. UGC sponsored major research “Antibacterial and antifungal activity of certain plant essential oils and their major constituents against drug resistant pathogens. Presently, he is on editorial board member of more than 94 international journals, and editor in chief of one journal. He is assisting international scientific community in creative writing and involved in production of high quality research papers. He is also subject expert for designing U.P. state syllabus for U.G. and P. G. classes under NEP.
