Celastrus paniculatus Willd. member of Celastraceae family commonly known as Malkangani (Jyotismati) widely use ethano medicine due to its broad range of important phytochemicals. The plant contains most important bioactive constituents such as alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, terpenoids, phlobatannin, cardiac glycosides and phenolic compounds. It has different properties such as antimicrobial, antitumour, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antiarthritic, and cytotoxicity. This plant has significant value in the treatment of various ailments like cough, asthma, leprosy, leukoderma, epilepsy, insomnia, gout, dyspepsia, rheumatism and cognitive dysfunction. Hence, C. paniculatus can be used as a potent source for development of novel drug against various disorders.
