&ndsp;Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth, having a multifactorial ethology. Genetic variance has been proved to be a major risk factor for periodontitis. Gene therapy involves the transfer of genetic material to cure a disease or at least to improve the clinical status of a patient. Gene therapy has emerged with newer dimensions to enhance the existing therapeutic modalities in biological science and in the management of periodontal diseases and reconstruction of den- toalveolar apparatus.
