Dr McGhie-Anderson graduated from Northern Caribbean University in 1992 where she completed a four-year BSN degree in nursing. In 1994 she completed post graduate certification in Midwifery from the University Hospital of the West Indies. She has more than 20 years’ experience in nursing and has worked in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and the United States. She has a compact registered nurse license. A certified emergency nurse and is an active member of the Emergency Nurses Association. Additionally, in 2015, Dr McGhie-Anderson has earned a PhD degree in Nursing at Barry University, from her dissertation research the Theory of Professional Advancement emerged. She has contributed to the professional development of many students in their undergraduate and graduate levels. She is a recipient of the GEM (Giving Excellence Meaning) Award in 2016, in the categories of Excellence in Education and Mentorship. As an academician she has worked as Dean of School of Graduate Studies, and Curriculum Committee Chair at Miami Regional University. In 2017, she became a board certified ARNP, FNP-BC
Dr. McGhie-Anderson has a keen research interest in Advanced Nursing Education as a factor that promote safety and academic progression. She is advocate for professional advancement among nurses and has published a manuscript in the November-December 2016 Issue of the Nursing Education Perspectives on Advanced Nursing Education: Critical Factors that Influence Diploma and Associate Degree Nurses to Advance. Dr McGhie-Anderson has disseminated this research finding in poster as well as podium presentations at Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) chapters and international leadership connection. In May 2018 she did Poster Presentation at the 3rd World Congress, Nursing Education, Practice & Research in Montreal, Canada where she also co-chaired sessions on Learning in Practice, Clinical Education, Cardiovascular Nursing, Cancer & Tumor Nursing, Mental Health. September 2016 she was involved in a poster presentation at the STTI Leadership Convention in Indiana. February 2016 she again participated in a podium presentation for the Lambda Chi Chapter, Barry University. In November 2015 she was the Guest Speaker, of the Induction Service, STTI Phi Pi Chapter, Chamberlain University. November 2015 was the starting point in her quest and dissemination of her dissertation, “Advanced Nursing Education: Critical Factors that Influence Diploma and Associate Degree Nurses to Advance Academically.
