Dr. Umeaku, Chinyelu Nkiru, a Senior Lecturer Department of Microbiology, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli, formerly Anambra State University, Uli, Nigeria, is an internationally renowned scientist and a well-known distinguished academician with 38 publications and 4 books. She is associated as Editor and Member of many online journals. Dr. Umeaku has guided over 169 students at undergraduate, M.Sc., and Ph.D. levels in Nigeria. She has developed Antiplasmodial drug from medicinal plants, using Plasmodium bergheri induced malaria in mice models. She elucidated the antibacterial activities of Vernonia amygdalina, Ocimum gratissimum and Garcima kola. In her study of Helicobacter pylori, she compared the detection methods in individuals suffering from stomach ulcers. She carried out outstanding researches on the effect of temperature and moisture on the hatchability of intestinal helminthes eggs. Dr. Umeaku studied Trichomonas vaginalis and Candida albicans in pregnant women attending antenatal clinics in Onitsha metropolis. Under Environmental Microbiology, she has characterized rhizosphere microorganisms associated with crude oil environment and used them to remediate the environment. She has conducted outstanding studies on the bacteriological quality of drinking water in parts of Anambra State with Salmonella typhi being highly implicated. Under Food Microbiology, Dr. C. N. Umeaku has been able to produce edible milk from plant, Treculia africana. She has also worked on the Public health implication of ready-to-drink yoghurt and ready-to-eat meat. Dr. Umeaku has attended conferences both internationally and locally including the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM), Berlin, Germany. She enjoyed the Federal government scholarship award for her research studies, she has obtained several research grants including TETFUND IBR (twice). Dr. Chinyelu Umeaku has given several public lectures including representing the Vice Chancellor at ATPS and being a guest speaker at the Federal House of Assembly, Abuja, Nigeria.
Dr. Chinyelu Umeaku research interest are Medical Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Parasitology, Medical Mycology, Microbial Genetics and Molecular Biology.
