Professor V.K.Joshi is M.Sc., Ph.D. (Microbiology) with about 40 years experience , . Is a former Prof and Head, Dept. of Postharvest Technology and subsequently, of Food Science and Technology in University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni-Solan (HP), India up to his superannuation on 30th May, 2015. Received several trainings including Sensory Analysis of food, Food Processing & Nutrition, Postharvest Technology, from prestigious institutes, Has authored/edited several books (Fruit wines; Biotechnology: Food Fermentation; Postharvest Technology of Fruits and Vegetables ; Principles of Sensory Science; Handbook of Enology; Food Biotechnology, Food Processing waste management technology; Indigenous fermented foods of South Asia (CRC),Science and Technology of fruit wines (Elsevier), Technology of Handling, Packaging, Processing, Preservation of Fruits and Vegetables(MIPA) with more than 150 research papers in international and national journals, 50 book chapters, 35 review/technical articles and 15 popular articles besides presenting 50 papers in different conferences. Edited special issue of Journals (JSIR and NPR, Niscaire) as a Guest Editor. Has successfully guided 20 PG students and conducted research and handled the research projects of ICAR(AICRP,mini-mission & Cess fund) ,NHB, DBT, GOI,MFP,GOI,DST,GOI(FIST).Remained a member of BOS,HPU,Shimla, UHF, Nauni, SLITE, Longowal(Pb),Punjabi University, Patiala and Kurukshetra, executive councilor of HASI member of panel of FSSAI on Food Contaminants and Standards of Alcoholic Beverages. Is a wine consultant and former adviser to HPMC, Shimla, HP (India). Is Editor-in-chief of Intl J. Food and Fermentation Technology, former Editor of Indian Food Packer, Journal of Mushroom Research and Journal of Food and Nutrition. Has been honoured with several awards like NN Mohan(1982,1998,2012), Kejeriwal(1995), N.A. Pandit(1996), Pruthi Award (2009), by AIFPA, New Delhi. Was awarded Himachal Shree 2003 by Himotkarsh.and conferred the Fellowship of BRSI in 2005, and ISHA in 2010 . Conducted successfully a Summer School as a Course Director entitled “Advances in Fruit and Vegetable Processing and Preservation†sponsored by ICAR, New Delhi w.e.f 25th June, 2012 and KVIC sponsored workshop on 7th March, 2013. As a chairman of Equal Opportunity Cell of the university helped physically handicapped persons, conducted mock tests for JRF, ARS-NET examination and made instructional materials for the students. At present, he is engaged in teaching as an adjunct professor (university of Biotechnology and Management, Shoolini(HP) India), editing various journals(IJFFT,WJB,NTFS,IFP), providing consultancy to the wine industry, and writing/editing books including those of CRC, Elsevier, NIPA and writing scientific articles .
